I decided to start Bolus Witch to collect all my thoughts on living with Type 1 Diabetes. When I was a senior in high school, I had a Type 1 Diabetes blog called Bloody Beautiful. Once I went off to college, that blog completely fell off my radar. I felt the calling to blog again and decided to start a fresh blog.
The DOC (diabetic online community) has been wonderful for me. There is nothing quite like being able to open an app and be surrounded by individuals all around the world that share the same chronic illness as you.
I have come a long way from diagnosis as an infant to struggling through my teen years to now navigating through adulthood. I am here to share my story and I hope to make others living with diabetes feel just a little less alone.
I chose the name “Bolus Witch” as a parody of “Bolus Wizard,” the feature in Medtronic insulin pumps that calculates your insulin dosage based on your current blood glucose reading and amount of carbs you are consuming. I’ve been pumping with Medtronic since 2003, when I was in the third grade. The Bolus Wizard feature has remained consistent over the years. I always thought the name was silly. It wants to sound elusive and magical, but really it’s just an algorithm. I chose “Bolus Witch” because I am a woman, the obvious reason, but also because I am a huge Harry Potter fan.
All opinions are my own. I am not a licensed medical professional. I do not have any sponsorships or endorsements. If that changes at any point in the future, I will be sure to be transparent on it.
So, without further ado, welcome to my blog!
